Scientific Officer / Assistant Scientific Officer

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    supervise, maintain and uphold the smooth running of a life science core research facility;

(b)    provide technical and research support in different life science-related research areas;

(c)    train students and research personnel in the operation of various animal imaging equipment,  cryo-electron microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, next-generation sequencing equipment and/or mass spectrometers; 

(d)    operate and maintain a website and an equipment booking system;

(e)    participate in promotional activities of the unit and the University; and

(f)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of University Research Facility in Life Sciences or his delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants for the Scientific Officer post should have a doctoral degree in a Life Science-related discipline plus at least five years’ post qualification experience, as well as expertise in the operation of animal imaging equipment, cryo-electron microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, next-generation sequencing equipment and/or mass spectrometers.

Applicants for the Assistant Scientific Officer post should have an MPhil degree in a Life Science-related discipline plus at least three years’ post qualification experience, as well as expertise in the operation of animal imaging equipment, cryo-electron microscopes, fluorescence microscopes, next-generation sequencing equipment and/or mass spectrometers.

For both posts, applicants should also have:

(a)    a good command of both written and spoken English; and

(b)    strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. 

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
