Professor in Cancer Care

We are seeking to appoint a well-established and highly motivative academic to lead a programme of research in the area of cancer care.  The post is open to local and international applicants from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds, but the focus is on cancer care and health innovation through digital technologies.  The Professor in Cancer Care will build on current innovation within the School, establish the School as a leader in innovation in patient care and engage in purposeful partnership to grow our academic and research portfolio.

The School hosts four research themes: i) Palliative Care in Cancer and Survivorship, ii) Healthy Ageing through Innovations, iii) Mental Health and Psycho-social Support, and iv) Primary Health Care.  The appointee will take a leading role in the cancer-related theme.  A substantial PolyU start-up package will be provided to support the development of a cancer-related research programme.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an academic in the field of cancer care and health innovation to join the PolyU School of Nursing at an exciting time of development.  Having recently appointed a Hong Kong SAR Global STEM Professor (Professor Janelle Yorke) the successful candidate will be integral to the strategic direction of the School’s newly established STEM lab – Digital Oncology Care Enhancement (DOCE).

Established in 1977, the School of Nursing supports the mission of the University by nurturing graduates who are critical thinkers, effective communicators, innovative problem solvers, lifelong learners and ethical leaders.  World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated the School as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Community Health Services since December 2007.  The School’s Centre of Evidence-based Practice for Health Care Policy is a JBI Affiliated Group since 2022.  The School is offering a full range of nursing programmes including bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree levels, with a total student population of about 2,500.  Currently, it has a total of around 80 full-time faculty members.  For more information about the University and the School of Nursing, please visit the websites https://www.polyu.edu.hk/en/ and https://www.polyu.edu.hk/sn/.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct high-level and impactful research in the subject area;

(b)    perform high-quality graduate and undergraduate teaching;

(c)    conduct research that leads to publications in refereed journals and award of research grants;

(d)    enhance his/her own international academic impact, play an active role in international academic exchange, and engage in services that contribute to the development of the School; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a)    a PhD degree in Nursing or a relevant discipline with substantial years of relevant experience;

(b)    a substantial record and reputation as an accomplished teacher with significant contribution to curriculum development/review or teaching and learning processes;

(c)    an established track record in research and scholarship, including refereed publications, external grants and postgraduate supervision;

(d)    demonstrated academic management and leadership capabilities;

(e)    demonstrated a strong background in research in one of the school research themes with an international academic profile; and

(f)    demonstrated excellent international reputation in research and possess an excellent record of academic leadership and research scholarship, both in terms of publications and funded research.
