Project Fellow / Project Associate (two posts)

[Appointment period: each for twenty four months initially, with possibility of further appointment]


The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Research centre for data science and artificial intelligence”.  They will be responsible for:

(a)    building the GPU cluster in the laboratory and setting up the operating platform for the cluster;

(b)    maintaining basic software for the laboratory’s self-built cluster, installing GPU, infiniband and other drivers and toolchains, and coordinating the packaging and delivery of platform training images;

(c)    conducting performance testing and evaluation of multi-node GPU clusters, making use of tools such as nccl-test for communication rate testing and communication problem locating; and

(d)    developing and operating the monitoring systems, carrying out timely detection of system problems (especially GPU failures) and resolution.


For the post of Project Fellow, applicants should have a doctoral degree plus at least three years of postdoctoral research experience or equivalent qualifications in Computer Science, Communication, Electronic Engineering or related fields and experience in operations engineer related fields.

For the post of Project Associate, applicants should have a master’s degree or a good honours degree in Computer Science, Communication, Electronic Engineering or related fields with three or more years of research/relevant work experience in operations engineer related fields.

For both posts, applicants should also:

(a)    have solid programming foundation and proficiency in at least one of the programming skills, such as GO/C/C++/Java/Python language;

(b)    be familiar with container technology, practical operation and maintenance experience preferably in Docker, K8s preferably;

(c)    preferably have experience in configuring and managing large-scale GPU clusters;

(d)    have a strong sense of responsibility and good teamwork spirit; and

(e)    have good communication skills, be able to convey information and exchange ideas clearly and accurately in collaboration.
