Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Associate / Research Assistant

[Appointment period: each for twelve months]

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Aviation coating and paint analysis”. Most of the research activities will be carried out in the fabrication facilities, laboratories, and workshops of the Centre.  The project will be undertaken in collaboration with the Centre’s industrial partners from the aviation sector and conducted under the University and Boeing research agreement.  They will be required to:

(a)    apply sound design and systems engineering principles to develop process and test matrix;

(b)    evaluate aircraft components, maintenance and inspection needs based on cost, time, quality, and safety;

(c)    support coating degradation and paint mixing experiments, perform material tests for specimens and analyse experimental data;

(d)    generate engineering documentation in accordance with the Centre’s procedures to develop and evaluate data; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegate(s).

Qualifications

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow post should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application.

Applicants for the Research Associate post should have a master’s degree or a good honours degree with three years of research / relevant work experience.

Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification, with research / relevant work experience being an advantage.  

For all posts, applicants should have:

(a)    interest in working in the aviation sector, artificial intelligence, machine learning, non-destructive inspection, coating degradation analysis, surface preparation, or paint mixture analysis via universal testing methods and scanning electron microscope (SEM); and

(b)     a good command of written and spoken English.
