Job Functions

Reporting to the Vice President (Student and Global Affairs), the appointee will oversee the operation of the Student Affairs Office and be a member of the senior management team with an active role in the overall planning and management of the University for supporting the holistic wellness development of students. The appointee will be required to:

(a) develop institutional policies and plans in the area of student development, in consultation with all units responsible for student education and activities;

(b) oversee the development and enhancement of (i) co-curricular and other relevant activities, and their appropriate alignment with curricular activities; and (ii) methodology and activities in the areas of outcome-based education and work-integrated education, following the University’s policies and strategies for education and student development;

(c) oversee the management of the Careers and Placement Section, the Counselling and Wellness Section, the Student Development Section, the Student Resources and Support Section as well as the Communication and Event team; and

(d) perform any other duties as assigned by the Vice President (Student and Global Affairs) or his/her delegate(s) or the Central Management of the University from time to time.

The successful candidate is expected to also serve as a full-time non-temporary Chair Professor or Professor of the University and will hold the concurrent deanship appointment mentioned above which is usually for a term of three years on renewable basis.  The appointee is expected to resume his/her substantive position at the end of the deanship appointment.

Qualifications

Applicants should be a dynamic leader with a strong drive for excellent performance and have:

(a) outstanding academic qualifications and scholarly achievements at Chair Professor / Professor level with evidence of eminent scholarship; 

(b) strong interest in and passion for the holistic development of students;

(c) a strong track record in managing similar or relevant areas at a senior level, and relevant experience in leading and coordinating student development, and the development and enhancement of quality teaching and learning in higher education institutions;

(d) proven administrative and management capabilities, excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication and team-building skills;

(e) a high level of academic achievement, particularly in teaching and student development;

(f) a good knowledge of the higher education environment in Hong Kong and preferably some other regions, and be familiar with the higher education curriculum development;

(g) an ability to build extensive local and international networks to create valuable learning opportunities for students; and

(h) an excellent command of both written and spoken English and preferably Chinese, with fluency in Putonghua being an advantage.
