The Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT) is a multi-disciplinary department that embraces chemistry, biology, biochemistry and biochemical engineering and materials science.  In keeping with the mission of PolyU, ABCT focuses on providing high quality education and building our strength in basic and applied research to meet the requirements of a rapidly changing society.  There are about 43 faculty members in the Department.  Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/abct for more information about the Department.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching and service in the Department;

(b)    provide leadership in promoting research collaboration, securing external research grants, improving research quality and publication outputs;

(c)    facilitate the Department to gain and increase visibility and international/industrial connections;

(d)    teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; 

(e)    engage in the supervision of research students of the Department, such as MPhil and PhD students; 

(f)    carry out academic and administrative duties as required; and

(g)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a doctoral degree in Sustainable Energy/Chemistry and a solid academic background in the disciplines of sustainable energy, carbon neutrality, photocatalytic water-splitting and electrocatalytic CO2 reduction;

(b)    have substantial years of relevant experience in research and university teaching in the aforementioned disciplines;

(c)    have proven track records in teaching and research;

(d)    have demonstrated excellence in establishing significant externally funded research programmes;

(e)    have considerable experience in academic programme planning, management and curriculum development;

(f)    be able to demonstrate academic management and leadership capabilities as a Professor; and

(g)    be open to the use of e-learning and blended learning strategies in teaching and scholarship.

 

Conditions of Service
