[Appointment period: each for twelve months]

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Laser paint removal EcoSocialSustainability”.  Most of the research activities will be carried out in the fabrication facilities, laboratories, and workshops of the Centre.  The project will be undertaken in collaboration with the Centre’s industrial partners from the aviation sector and conducted under the University and Boeing research agreement. They will be required to:

(a) apply sound design and systems engineering principles to develop process and system architectures;

(b) evaluate aircraft materials and components for which laser paint removal process brings benefits and evaluate the current and future sustainability profile of this process;

(c) participate in the development, installation and testing of an advanced laser paint removal system which addresses the needs to improve the sustainability in the aircraft MRO industry, in terms of both protecting the environment and the health of operators;

(d) generate engineering documentation in accordance with the Centre’s procedures towards the implementation of the system in the industry; and

(e) perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegate(s).

Qualifications

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow post should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification and must have no more than five years of post-qualification experience at the time of application.

Applicants for the Research Associate post should have a master’s degree or a good honours degree with three years of research / relevant work experience.

Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification, with research / relevant work experience being an advantage.  

For all posts, applicants should have:

(a) interest in working aircraft and airframe technology, surface preparation, non-destructive inspection, flow dynamics and finite element method simulations in ANSYS or SIMULIA ABAQUS, environmental and social sustainability; and

(b)  a good command of written and spoken English.
