Health and Safety Specialist (two posts)

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

(a)    assist in the implementation of health and safety management programmes of the University, including but not limited to laboratory and research safety, dangerous goods management and hazardous wastes management, etc.;

(b)    perform inspections and risk assessments;

(c)    perform laboratory tests and site monitoring;

(d)    provide emergency response to incidents and conduct accident/incident investigation; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of the Unit or his/her delegates.

The appointees may be required to work outside normal office hours and/or outside Hong Kong occasionally or when necessary.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a recognised degree in Science, Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Occupational Hygiene or related disciplines;

(b)    have at least five years of relevant post-qualification experience, preferably gained in tertiary institutions, statutory bodies or government agencies with experience in laboratory safety, regulatory or compliance roles; 

(c)    have good knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and legal requirements;

(d)    be proficient in computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;

(e)    have good interpersonal and communication skills; and

(f)    have a good command of both written and spoken English, and be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken Chinese.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for the post of Assistant Health and Safety Specialist.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test.

Successful candidates will be required to attend internal and external training where appropriate.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointments will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
