With the restructuring of academic programmes for 2022/23, the School of Design is seeking for a high-calibre talent with practice-oriented expertise plus extensive teaching experience to take up a leading role for the teaching and learning activities related to the new scheme-based undergraduate programme BA (Hons) in Design which widely covers the areas of Interior Design, Environment Design, Advertising Design, Information Design, Media Design, Product Design, Interaction Design, Social Design and Service Design. He/She will be expected to develop new pedagogical frameworks and curriculum for the academic programmes addressing interdisciplinary training for students with a view to facilitating them to find the best-fit design disciplines. The candidate will also contribute teaching to the School’s taught postgraduate master programmes.
Duties
The appointee will be required to:
(a) provide leadership in all aspects of teaching and learning activities among the design disciplines;
(b) lead the innovation development of subject curriculum and pedagogy, overall teaching and learning approaches/strategies as well as subject administration for the foundation and second year studies of School’s undergraduate teaching and learning programmes;
(c) engage in teaching and learning activities, develop teaching materials, design teaching and assessment strategies, deliver teaching in academic settings appropriate for the objective of learning, interact with and motivate students, as well as assessing the students’ performance and giving feedback to students;
(d) engage actively in industrial, non-profit and public sector networking activities with significance and relevance to the discipline and profession and coordinate innovative industrial collaboration projects;
(e) assist in the development and management of relevant teaching facilities;
(f) participate in pedagogical research; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Dean of School or his delegates.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
(a) have a master’s degree in a relevant design specialism or design related field and relevant undergraduate studies in design or design related fields;
(b) have extensive relevant post-qualification experience in a design field, design related profession or design related industry with demonstrable contributions to any design sector;
(c) demonstrate contributions to curriculum development and course management or equivalent, with preference for teaching innovation, scholarship of teaching and learning, scholarly works or publications and educational research output;
(d) commit to working collaboratively in teaching teams coupled with a wide perspective on design education, preferably with experience in working in professional or educational cross-disciplinary design teams and inter-disciplinary collaborations on design related projects; and
(e) demonstrate technical capability and skills relevant to design education and have the proficiency to teach these skills.
Preference will be given to those with a PhD degree or a professional doctorate degree and who have substantial experience in teaching at a higher education level in design education, with proven track record of accomplishment of teaching, educational leadership and course coordination. Candidates who can demonstrate equivalent professional experience and achievements in their design profession without a PhD degree will also be considered.

Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment to the Principal Teaching Fellow post.
